The radio director is the individual who coordinates the day-to-day activities of a radio channel. This is the pivotal position for radio station as he determines the program schedule for the radio station and controls what the radio station broadcasts. It is a lucrative career option as it is a segment that has seen tremendous growth in the past 5 years, and is expected to grow exponentially in the coming decade. Basically, a radio director is a person who can duly execute the every day operations and ensure smooth running of the station in the face of several challenges.

The position of the Radio director outlines the following responsibilities. A director of radio operations is in charge of the on air programming and its execution. A radio director ensures that each and every minute of the broadcast meets the desired results. A director is responsible for the anchors; RJs and prepares the entire schedule for the week and ascertains the required air time for each program on the schedule. They ensure there is no clash in the timings and the program schedule runs smoothly without interruptions. They are the ones who can any make any changes in the schedule; likewise they are held responsible if something goes wrong in the schedule or any disruption in programs occur. They have to be aware of the ratings of each broadcast and take the necessary step to boost the ratings of a program if needed. They should be able to organize various promotional and marketing events like contests and rallies. A person who is a keen observer and has a keen taste of the public opinion is the right candidate for this post.

Academics Requirements

For the position of Radio Director, a candidate would require to be a graduate in business management or a related degree and relevant work experience, a minimum of two years in the media sector.

Skill Sets Required

Excellent communication skills, written and verbal along with great leadership abilities are required in a prospective candidate for this job. A radio director should be exceptional in matters involving planning, organizing and prioritizing matters of importance. The radio director should be able to work under pressure and should be a quick decision maker in tough times. The radio director should be a man of high integrity, should have principles, and they should be looked up to and respected by the team. The radio director should be able to make necessary changes in the nick of time if the situation arises. The radio director should be able to think logically and have a wider view of the scenarios.

Training and Prior Experience

A good career graph and performance level is a necessary. Basic computational knowledge and two years of experience in media is required for the radio director position.
