Description Associate Producer, RADIO ROOKIES - 6 month positionu00a0 NYPR seeks a highly motivated Associate Producer for a six month position (September - March) with Radio Rookies, a documentary project of WNYC radio that teaches people in New York City the skills to create first person documentaries about their lives and their communities. Radio Rookies is a part of WNYC's Narrative Unit and produces content for series and podcasts produced by the Narrative Unit, with a focus on social justice.u00a0 The Associate Producer reports to the Senior Producer and co-teaches the broadcast production workshops around New York City. The ideal candidate will be interested in helping people tell and report their own stories, have a passion for documentary radio, have experience in youth work (volunteering or teaching), and cares deeply about producing high quality, authentic content. RESPONSIBILITIES: Produce documentaries in workshops across NYC, specific work will include: researching topics, working on scripts, helping youth prepare for interviews, producing interview segments, transcribing audio, cutting audio, mixing, and extensive rewrites and editing. Co-teach Broadcast Workshop topics including interview skills, technical skills such as mic placement and loading audio into pro tools, help manage the classroom.u00a0 Support Radio Rookies in their personal development, such as assistance with finding support for school work, career advancement and college guidance. Help create a community environment through participating in group trips (sometimes out of NYC), local outings, and events at the workshop and station. Write draft host copy to introduce documentaries on the air. Write and produce multimedia content for website. Develop original content for social media. Help prepare award submissions, including writing descriptions and producing content. Work on marketing stories and developing Radio Rookies brand. Production work on the Radio Rookies podcast, including editing, producing and posting. Event and trip planning, including booking travel, creating a budget, handling waivers, and chaperoning trips. Oversee management of Radio Rookies computers and technical equipment, including tracking what equipment has been checked out, bringing broken kits to engineering, and putting in orders to replace old or broken kits or computers. Work closely with Rookies Senior Producer on invoicing and tracking.u00a0 Administrative tasks as needed.u00a0 QUALIFICATIONS: Four or more years of experience in a fast-paced, idea-driven media environment. A minimum of three years experience in print or broadcast journalism.u00a0Some experience working with teenagers either as a teacher, mentor or counselor. Proficiency with pro tools and related video software Production experience with multimedia (image and/or video) preferred Proficiency with a range of social media platforms and awareness of new platforms. Creative problem-solving in editing stories.u00a0 Familiarity with content management systems. Scrupulous attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent communication skills, written and spoken. Ability to work in a team environment. Effective time-management and ability to produce excellent work on deadline.
