KUOW, licensed to the University of Washington, is the Puget Sound Region’s NPR-affiliated public radio service delivering local, regional, national and international news, information and cultural programming. KUOW strives to be the finest possible provider of news—both from within our region and beyond. To help in this mission, KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for a Morning Board Operator.

Reporting to the Senior Announcer, the Morning Board Operator performs daily board shift including board operation and automation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Serves as both technical and on-air engineer for assigned shift, managing broadcast board operation and making on-air announcements such as weather, time, emergency alerts, etc. 65%

• Operate multiple computers using software such as AudioVault and NewsBoss for use in broadcast. 8%

• Monitors KUOW communications and newswires, NPR and other sources for updates to programs, breaking news and technical issues. 5%

• Monitors social feeds, changing traffic and weather and offers updates to News Host. 10%

• Provides production support including, but not limited to, screening and connecting public audience calls for on-air interviews; assisting with on-air fundraising preparation. 3%

• Backs up other shifts when needed. 2%

• Assists with Public Radio Program Distribution system using Content Depot, PRX, FTP, in conjunction with AudioVault and NewsBoss. 5%

• Performs other duties as assigned. 2%

Requirements include:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field.

• A minimum of one year of professional broadcast experience with a background in production, engineering or on-air hosting.

• Audio engineering skills and a knowledge of professional broadcast standards and practices.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

• Familiarity with tracking news and weather over various platforms.
