Job Description:
Aligned with the celebration of the 90th Anniversary of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Radio, the first radio broadcasting major in the United States, **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is pleased to announce a search for Director of Radio/Assistant Professor who will educate and support students, lead relevant and modern programming, and manage staffing of the award-winning, WMLN 91.5 FM.
The Director of Radio/Assistant Professor of Communication has the unique opportunity to collaborate with students and colleagues to position WMLN 91.5 to meet the ever-changing broadcasting medium and to prepare students to harness their passions for music, sports, entertainment, news, and pop culture (among others) toward a career in broadcasting and audio production.
Specifically, the Director of Radio/Assistant Professor will be responsible for:
1. Maintaining community contact;
2. Making daily programming and operational decisions in accordance with established policies;
3. Performing other activities, including, but not limited to:
Selecting, training and supervising all student staff;
Serving as liaison with the FCC to insure proper station operation;
Preparing operating budgets and approving all station expenses
Maintaining contact with College personnel, State and Civic organizations and interested citizens in the development and evaluation of the overall educational, cultural and enlightenment value of the radio station; and
Performing related duties as required.
In addition to responsibilities outlined above, the Director of Radio/Assistant Professor of Communication must also be an excellent teacher and mentor. Teaching responsibilities would include developing and delivering face-to-face broadcasting and media courses on our Milton Campus including Introduction to Broadcasting, Radio Practicum, Radio Announcing, and Broadcast/Media Law. The potential to teach or develop other courses within the Communication program exists for qualified individuals.
Responsibilities include maintaining Radio Station programming in Summer and during Winter breaks under a separate administrative contract.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. or other terminal degree;
A minimum of at least 5 years radio experience;
Experience in overseeing an FM college/university radio station including on-air commercial and/or non-commercial broadcast experience including background in Radio/TV laws and regulations (FCC);
Contract knowledge regarding copyright, royalty requirements and other services; and
Understanding the equipment/technology, and technical and engineering components of an FM radio station.
