The Communications Technician is responsible for Technical Services in daily operations and Up Fit of Public Safety Vehicles. The successful candidate will be responsible for installation of all public safety equipment into the vehicle. This includes but not limited to the Two-Way radio, lights, sirens, gun locks, computer stands, door seals and so much more. Work is conducted on everything from brand new vehicles to very old equipment. Work is performed under limited supervision in a garage environment or in the field as needed.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
· Knowledge of all vehicle mechanical, electrical and computer systems to include all components and modules
· Knowledge of analog and digital communications equipment to include antenna and cabling and the installations, testing programming and repair of this equipment
· Knowledge of mobile computer system components
· Ability to perform functionality checks and installation, basic trouble shooting and repair of mobile computer equipment
· Ability to read, comprehend and apply technical equipment specifications
A four (4) year combination of education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge of electronic communications repair and maintenance. Computer skills necessary for the tracking of equipment, installation, testing and diagnostic work using provided software applications is preferred.
Preference will be given to individuals with 4 or more years of Public Safety equipment installation, experience with State agency vehicles, specific public safety equipment use by radio service, Harris radio programming, setup, and installation.
