Award Winning Broadcaster WJZY, the FOX O&O duopoly in Charlotte, NC is looking for a leader/motivator/idea machine/social media addict to be our Executive Producer of Special Programs. Duties include producing sports and news specials. Specials projects may be live or taped; in studio or on location and include regularly scheduled programming and breaking news. Some fill-in news producing may be included. Social media proficiency and leadership is required. Editing experience required and videography experience is helpful. The ideal candidate will be responsible for compiling stories, video, wire copy, in-field interviews, coordinating video/graphics, social media, etc. and must possess a superior command of grammar and broadcast news-writing style. Work with newsroom staff (Reporters, Anchors, Producers, etc.) in story selection and script development. Coordinate social media and web coverage and support the Senior Web Producer and the Director of Social Media. Make contacts with relevant sports figures and newsmakers. Accountable for editorial decisions and/or changes made in the control room while the program is on the air. Communicates via IFB to provide producer direction and talent instruction. Supervise APs assigned to the shift and writing ideas. Edit Reporter scripts and provide feedback and assign voiceovers and VO- SOTs to Reporters and Anchors. Provide support for graphics personnel by drawing rudimentary instructions (concepts) for graphics personnel. Work closely with assignment desk to coordinate live shots and photographer assignments. Stay informed on current news and sports events. Attend and participate in news department meetings.
Must be able to sit for extended period of time and occasionally bend, stoop and crouch in order to accomplish essential duties. Must be able to arrange, lift or move equipment up to 25 lbs. Complies with all FTS computer requirements – myfoxpay, Navigator training, password protection, computer usage, etc. Complies with all FTS and Station policies – Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Insider Trading, etc. Other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree required, with emphasis on journalism and/or communications. Minimum of 5 years’ experience producing on local or national news broadcast. Management experience preferred. Must notify HR Director immediately of any changes in the status of driver’s license.

The South Carolina Broadcasters Association (SCBA) will present its most prestigious awards to Charles Bierbauer, Debi Chard, Gary Griffin and Bill Sharpe at a dinner and ceremony during their annual Winter Conference. The dinner will be held January 26, 2017 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. SCBA is pleased to announce that Boyd Huppert, well-known American television personality, will be the news speaker at the SCBA News Training Workshop on March 4, 2017 at the Columbia Conference Center. Huppert is a news reporter for KARE 11 in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. Each week, he adds another Land of 10,000 Stories story which has been recognized for its photojournalism. In 2007 Huppert received an Emmy Award for "Portrait of Compassion", which ran on NBC's Today Show. He has won 14 national Edward R. Murrow awards, three Sigma Delta Chi awards, a national Emmy and 92 regional Emmys. He has also won the National Press Photographers Association’s Photojournalism Award for Reporting seven times. Huppert also teaches broadcast seminars throughout the world. Beyond the U.S., Huppert has taught in Canada, Denmark, New Zealand and Norway. He has also been a member of the National Press Photographers Association’s Advanced Storytelling Workshop faculty for nearly 20 years.
