JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A Telecommunications Technician is responsible for planning, layout and complete installation of new commercial and retrofit commercial communications equipment and systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. This particular position requires supervision of subcontractor scope, preparation of weekly work plans and properly submitting all project reporting.

Responsible for, but not limited to:

1.Installation of video and data cable Cat 6 as well as fiber cable.

2.Terminating, testing, troubleshooting of horizontal copper (Cat 5, Cat 6).

3.Termination of fiber.

4.Termination of riser cable.

5.Installation of patch panels.

6.Label and test horizontal cable.

7.Installation of backbone and riser cable (copper & fiber).

8.Read and understand plans and specifications.

9.Installation of plywood and racks.

10.Installation of cable trays in TC, MDF, IDF.

11.Mentor apprentices.

12.Assist in OSP (outside plant) installations.

13.Pulling cable 100 pair or smaller unassisted.

14.Installing prefab assembly unassisted.

15.Assisting in Site Grounding.

16.Participating in Job site cleanup.

17.Maintaining clean work area.

18.Performing an Operational Risk Management Briefing for any task mastered to date.

19.Generating or adding to an Activity Hazard Analysis for any task mastered.

20.Contributing to the Risk Register for any defined feature of work mastered.

21.Terminate various manufacturers of copper termination blocks.

High school diploma or GED with at least three (3) to four (4) years of experience in commercial communications industry.

Must have reliable transportation to and from the jobsite

Successful Cable Technician Will have extensive experience with the installation, termination and testing of Structured Cable Plant in commercial environments.

Hospital installs a plus.

Technician should understand how improper installs can affect testing.

Technicians should have knowledge of BICSI guidelines for proper install and termination procedures.

Technicians must have proven experience terminating cable on Patch Panels and Jacks at Work Area Outlet.

Technicians must have full Technicians Tool Set.

Cable Technicians need to be able to train and supervise apprentices in a team environment to facilitate installing cable from TRs to WAO’s while following drawings and run lists to ensure cables are installed methodically and arranged in proper bundles at TR for ease of dressing and termination.

Cable technicians also need to be able to perform Quality assurance checks on their teams work ensuring cable install is performed within all applicable requirements.

Technicians with proven Fiber Optics experience are a plus.

This position may require ongoing or intermittent use of a company vehicle. Selected candidates must possess an acceptable driving record in accordance to our policy.
