Radio Director Jobs
A radio director is in charge of on-air programming in radio stations. A radio director or station program director is the one in charge of ensuring that each part of the station's programming carries out the final goal. A radio director is responsible for fine-tuning the details of programming. A radio director is responsible for setting up DJs, deciding who goes on the air at what times, and making changes to schedules and play lists that don't work. A radio director’s role is essential in making sure new music makes it into the rotation, and the position calls for careful attention to what the public wants. A radio director spends a lot of time studying the station's ratings and deciding what's working versus what's not. A radio director is also involved in setting up promotional efforts, such as concerts and contests to help pull in listeners and shore up the stations' identity.
A radio director requires a bachelor’s degree and minimum of two years experience in public radio including announcing, direction, and production supervisory experience. A radio director should have the ability to operate broadcast audio equipment, audio production, sound mixing, and interviewing skills. A radio director should have the ability to work accurately and with attention to detail, thorough knowledge of computers, including office applications and radio automation systems. A radio director should have good organizational, and communication (oral and written) skills.
